Sometimes you need to pet a kitty cat that isn't yours. There! I said it.

7 Places to Simply Hang Out With Cats in South Bay (No Adopting Necessary)

There's something healing about a butt load of cats climbing you like you're Mount Killimanjaro.

And if you're in San Jose with a craving for that sort of therapy, here's where you need to visit.

1. Mini Cat Town @ Eastridge Center

Inside Eastridge Mall, there’s a magical land where adoptable kittens roam freely.

You can book play dates, socialize kittens, and leave with a new friend (if you fall in love... you will.)

This is going to be your most efficient way to get Vitamin Cat.

2. Mini Cat Town @ Milpitas

Same magic, but just outside of San Jose.

Mini Cat Town in Milpitas is a nonprofit that partners with local shelters to socialize rescue kittens before adoption, acting as both a play room and public service.

If you're looking to get harassed by a menacing pack of kittens, this is the right part of town.

3. Itty Bitty Kitty Cafe @ Cambrian Park

What do coffee + cookies + cats equal?

Bliss. And the formula has been tested for centuries and never disproven.

This cafe lets partake in this age-old practice, but mindfully. So you can enjoy your coffee and then chill with adoptable cats in a separate lounge area. And if you book for 4 or more people, you'll have the whole room just for you and your group! Private kitty party, anyone?

Just a heads up, though! They are temporarily closed from now until April 4th, 2026.

4. Nabi Cat Cafe @ Downtown San Jose

Nabi offers scheduled play dates with their kitties, which is the least chaotic option in my opinion.

This allows you to bring a book, bring a date, or maybe even take a nap. Only the cats will judge you.

5. Little Bean’s Cat Cafe @ Morgan Hill

If you’re willing to venture further south, Little Bean's is a gem with no entry fee. Ideal for a nice start to a weekend staycation!

6. Humane Society Silicon Valley @ Milpitas

Not in San Jose, but worth mentioning: the Humane Society Silicon Valley's Milipitas location offers meet-and-greets where you can spend 1:1 time with cats, giving a quiet, 1-on-1 experience. This is perfect if you’re also considering adoption, though you do not have to adopt following the meet-and-greet.

Once upon a time, cats worked grueling jobs as mousers for town bars, barns and galleys. But today, we build sites everywhere around the world to worship them while they do nothing.

And that feels like progress to me.

So now you know... If you need 30 minutes of progressive therapy a la cat and aren't sure about adopting one just yet, the South Bay has options.

And if you do end up adopting and need a nanny while you travel?

You know who to call (or email.)
